HIS WORSHIP, THE MAYOR M.A. MNCWANGO’S STATEMENT ON CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

In light of the recent COVID 19 outbreak, President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared COVID 19 as the National State of Disaster. As Nongoma Local Municipality, we have done the following for the prevention of the pandemic:

  • Engagement was made with Department of Health and Social Development (the Municipality will work together with the above Departments in the fight of Coronavirus, together we are on stand-by to assist the Community);
  • Hand sanitisers have been placed on all entry points at Municipal Offices;
  • Local Disaster Management Unit has been actuated to do awareness campaigns in town (especially in crowded areas);
  • Biometric (thumb) clocking system has been suspended for hygienic purposes;
  • Public Consultative meetings have been suspended until further notice;
  • Posters and flyers are available to the community on how to deal with the pandemic.

It is encouraged that everyone does the following in order to prevent the Coronavirus:

  • Thoroughly wash your hands for twenty seconds with soap and water
  • Use tissue paper when sneezing or coughing and dispose immediately after use in a closed bin
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Separate yourself from ill/ sick people
  • Avoid handshakes, hugging and any other physical contact
  • Stay in a ventilated house
