Thursday, 26 March the Mayor of Nongoma Mr Albert Mncwango embarked on a COVID 19 Awareness Campaign in Nongoma. This is after the President announced a National lockdown of 21 days due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The lockdown is effective from the 26th March till the 16th April. Mr Mncwango was accompanied by Nongoma councillors including Deputy Mayor Miss A.N Xulu and Speaker B. W Zulu where they visited taxi ranks, informal traders and local business. During the awareness the Mayor engaged with people on how they are expected to behave and how they need to protect themselves from this pandemic.
He continued and distributed sanitizers to commuters and taxi drivers at the taxi rank. The Mayor also pleaded with the people to follow the guidelines as requested by the President as this will assist to flatten the increasing number of people getting infected with the Coronavirus. “The most important thing for people to do at this point is to stay at home and only move when necessary for example if they want to get essential services” said Mncwango
