On Tuesday, 17 April his Worship, Mayor M.A Mncwango displayed his love for his community by hosting an event for people living with disability. This remarkably event of appreciation and love by his Worship was to also involve the community that he truly cares for. The Disability Event was attended by all the people with disability around all 21 Wards of Nongoma who were all gathered at the packed Multipurpose Centre, Nongoma. The aim is to motivate and assure people with disability of their importance and the role they play in their community. The Multipurpose Hall had everyone on their feet with good music and the atmosphere of joy and liveliness. “Being disabled does not mean you cannot dream and live your best life, we are here to say you can still be who you want to be and achieve what you want to despite the challenges” said Mayor MA Mncwango. A disability committee was selected which will then look into the needs of the people with disability within Nongoma which will liaise, and ensure there is communication between the municipality and the people with disability. The Mayor’s office has programmes in place which will specifically cater for people with disability, one of them it is to develop them in different skills programmes as currently the Municipality is training 24 people with disability and they doing a learneship in Administration while getting a stipend. This is only the beginning of more projects that are in place by the Municipality. Mayor M.A Mncwango also urged the community to not alienate or isolate people with disability but also to treat them as any member of the community.” We encourage parents and the community tto not hide and abuse them by taking their grant money, treat them normally as some of them can even do home chores like washing dishes. We are aware that some family members abuse and we together with the Department of Social to get to the bottom of this disgusting act. Acknowledged and recognised were Senamile Dlamini and Saziso Mnyandu who flew the Nongoma flag high when they represented South Africa in the Special Olympics held in Abu Dhabi and came back winners with Silver and Bronze Medals. Senamile and Saziso received a Mayoral Prestige Award and Certificates for their outstanding performance given by Mayor MA Mncwango
